ENG| On Tuesday, April 14th , between 5 pm and 9 pm, Perve Galeria will open Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim’s solo exhibition – “Sarab” – which will be on display until June 6, 2026, in Alfama.
The opening will be attended by the artist and by the exhibition's curator, Mo Reda.
PT| A Perve Galeria inaugura na terça-feira, 14 de abril, entre as 17h e as 21h, a primeira exposição individual em Portugal de Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim - "Sarab" , patente até 6 de junho de 2026, em Alfama.
A inauguração contará com a presença do próprio artista e do curador Mo Reda, que se deslocam propositadamente a Portugal para esta ocasião.

And Thus He Crossed Over is a triptych exhibition by Emirati artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, curated by Dutch-Iraqi curator Mo Reda and presented in collaboration with Perve Gallery in Portugal.
The project is grounded in a collaborative model in which the gallery works in close dialogue with both artist and curator to develop a sustained conceptual framework. In doing so, it fosters an ongoing cultural and artistic exchange between the Arabian Peninsula, the wider Middle East, and the Iberian region.
And Thus He Crossed Over reflects on migration as a formative force in the construction of identity and community. While cultures, personalities, and civilizations are often understood as products of settlement, they are equally shaped through movement, exchange, and the continuous crossing of boundaries. Settlement that resists movement risks stagnation as in the cases of the flow of people, ideas, and encounters.
Migration is not the opposite of settlement but it is its origin. Human settlements and cultures have emerged through the search for conditions in which life could be sustained, resources accessed, and new forms of community established. The act of crossing from one place to another is therefore an act of possibility. All this is driven by the desire to transform a condition, to seek more fertile ground, and to construct new cultural realities. Without migration, there is no discovery, no exchange, and ultimately no innovation.
In this sense, And Thus He Crossed Over becomes a tribute to the solitary and restless figure of the artist: the one who moves beyond the familiar and imagines what might exist at the other end of the path. The artist's crossing is not only geographical, but also intellectual and emotional: an act of conviction that what has not yet been seen may still be brought into being.
Volume I — Sarab
Within the triptych, the first volume, Sarab, marks the moment when movement has already begun. A mirage emerges only once the restless mind and body are set in motion toward what lies at the other end of the journey.
Sarab reflects the moment of uncertainty that arises when one leaves the familiar and moves toward the unfamiliar. The mirage functions both as a projection of desire and as a test of perception, where imagination and reality briefly converge. In this sense, Sarab is not merely an illusion but a passage. It is a process of navigating uncertainty and arriving at a more articulated understanding of one's direction. It is through this encounter with shifting realities that the trajectory of the journey becomes visible.

«وهكذا عبر» هو المعرض الأول ضمن مشروع ثلاثي للفنان الإماراتي محمد أحمد إبراهيم، بإشراف القيّم الهولندي-العراقي محمد رضا، وبالتعاون مع غاليري بيرفي في البرتغال.
ينطلق هذا المشروع من نموذج تعاوني يقوم على حوار وثيق بين الغاليري والفنان والقيّم، بهدف تطوير إطار مفاهيمي مستمر. ومن خلال ذلك، يعزّز تبادلاً ثقافياً وفنياً ممتداً بين شبه الجزيرة العربية والشرق الأوسط وشبه الجزيرة الإيبيرية.
يتأمل معرض «وهكذا عبر» الهجرة بوصفها قوة أساسية في تشكّل الهوية والمجتمع. فبينما يُنظر إلى الثقافات والحضارات غالباً بوصفها نتاج الاستقرار، فإنها في جوهرها تتكوّن عبر الحركة والتبادل والعبور. فالثبات الذي ينفصل عن الحركة يواجه خطر الجمود، في حين أن تدفّق البشر والأفكار هو ما يمنح المجتمعات قدرتها على التحوّل.
الهجرة ليست نقيض الاستقرار، بل شرطه. فمن خلالها نشأت التجمعات البشرية، وتشكّلت الثقافات، وتطوّرت أشكال العيش المشترك. إن العبور من مكان إلى آخر ليس مجرد انتقال، بل فعل إمكان: مدفوع بالرغبة في التغيير، والسعي نحو بيئات أكثر خصوبة، وبناء واقع ثقافي جديد. وبدون هذا العبور، يتعذّر الاكتشاف، ويتوقف التبادل، ويخفت الابتكار.
بهذا المعنى، يشكّل «وهكذا عبر» تحيةً لتلك الشخصية الفردية القلقة والدؤوبة: الفنان الذي يتجاوز المألوف، ويتخيّل ما قد يوجد في نهاية الطريق. غير أن هذا العبور لا يقتصر على الجغرافيا، بل يمتد إلى الفكر والعاطفة، بوصفه إيماناً بأن ما لم يُرَ بعد يمكن أن يُوجَد.
الجزء الأول — سراب
ضمن هذا المشروع الثلاثي، يشير الجزء الأول «سراب» إلى اللحظة التي تبدأ فيها الحركة فعلياً. فالسراب لا يظهر إلا عندما يكون الجسد والعقل قد انطلقا بالفعل نحو المجهول.
يجسّد «سراب» حالة التوتر التي ترافق مغادرة المألوف، حيث يتداخل الإدراك مع الرغبة، وتلتقي المخيّلة بالواقع في صورة عابرة. هنا لا يكون السراب مجرد وهم، بل وسيطاً: مساحة انتقالية تُمكّن من اختبار الاتجاه قبل الوصول. ومن خلال هذا الاحتكاك بواقع متحوّل، يبدأ المسار في التشكّل، ويغدو الطريق أكثر وضوحاً.

And Thus He Crossed Over é uma exposição em tríptico do artista emiradense Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, com curadoria do curador neerlandês-iraquiano Mo Reda, apresentada em colaboração com a Perve Galeria, em Portugal.
O projeto assenta num modelo colaborativo em que a galeria trabalha em estreito diálogo com o artista e o curador, desenvolvendo um enquadramento conceptual contínuo e sustentado. Deste modo, promove um intercâmbio cultural e artístico permanente entre a Península Arábica, o Médio Oriente alargado e a região ibérica.
And Thus He Crossed Over reflete sobre a migração enquanto força formadora na construção da identidade e da comunidade. Embora as culturas, as personalidades e as civilizações sejam frequentemente entendidas como produtos da fixação, são igualmente moldadas pelo movimento, pela troca e pela travessia contínua de fronteiras. Uma fixação que resiste ao movimento arrisca a estagnação, como se observa nos fluxos de pessoas, ideias e encontros.
A migração não é o oposto da fixação, mas antes a sua origem. Os assentamentos humanos e as culturas emergiram da procura de condições que permitissem sustentar a vida, aceder a recursos e estabelecer novas formas de comunidade. O ato de atravessar de um lugar para outro é, assim, um ato de possibilidade. Tudo isto é impulsionado pelo desejo de transformar uma condição, de procurar terrenos mais férteis e de construir novas realidades culturais. Sem migração, não há descoberta, não há troca e, em última instância, não há inovação.
Neste sentido, And Thus He Crossed Over torna-se uma homenagem à figura solitária e inquieta do artista: aquele que se desloca para além do familiar e imagina o que poderá existir no outro extremo do percurso. A travessia do artista não é apenas geográfica, mas também intelectual e emocional: um ato de convicção de que aquilo que ainda não foi visto pode, ainda assim, ser trazido à existência.
Volume I — Sarab
No interior do tríptico, o primeiro volume, Sarab, assinala o momento em que o movimento já teve início. Uma miragem surge apenas quando a mente e o corpo inquietos se colocam em marcha em direção ao que se encontra no outro extremo da viagem.
Sarab reflete o momento de incerteza que emerge quando se abandona o familiar e se avança para o desconhecido. A miragem funciona simultaneamente como projeção do desejo e como um teste da perceção, onde imaginação e realidade convergem brevemente. Neste sentido, Sarab não é apenas uma ilusão, mas uma passagem. Trata-se de um processo de navegação na incerteza e de chegada a uma compreensão mais articulada da própria direção. É através deste encontro com realidades mutáveis que a trajetória da viagem se torna visível.
