PT| Na terça-feira, 14 de julho, às 19:00, a Perve Galeria e a Casa da Liberdade - Mário Cesariny (Alfama) inauguração a exposição '100 Obras para Artur Bual: Homenagem ao Pioneiro Gestualista Português', mostra coletiva que assinala o centenário do nascimento de Artur Bual (1926–1999), uma das figuras mais determinantes da arte portuguesa do século XX.
Com curadoria de Carlos Cabral Nunes, a exposição, patente até 15 de agosto, reúne uma centena de obras, focando-se numa vasta seleção do percurso de Artur Bual, com obras realizadas entre os anos 1950 e 1990, a par de obras de artistas de diferentes gerações. O conjunto integra autores que mantiveram uma relação direta com o artista, bem como criadores cuja obra estabelece afinidades plásticas e poéticas com o seu legado, tais como Mário Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, Fernando Lemos e Figueiredo Sobral, entre outros.
ENG| On Tuesday, July 14, at 7pm, Perve Galeria and Casa da Liberdade – Mário Cesariny (Alfama) will open the exhibition "100 Artworks for Artur Bual: A Tribute to the Portuguese Gesturalist Pioneer." This collective exhibition marks the centenary of the birth of Artur Bual (1926–1999), one of the most defining figures of 20th-century Portuguese art.
Curated by Carlos Cabral Nunes, the exhibition, which runs until 15 August, brings together around a hundred works, focusing on a wide-ranging selection from Artur Bual’s career, featuring works created between the 1950s and the 1990s, alongside works by artists from different generations. The collection includes artists who had a direct relationship with Bual, as well as creators whose work shares artistic and poetic affinities with his legacy, such as Mário Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, Fernando Lemos and Figueiredo Sobral, amongst others.

No ano em que se assinala o centenário do nascimento de Artur Bual (1926–1999), a Perve Galeria e a Casa da Liberdade – Mário Cesariny apresentam a exposição "100 Obras para Artur Bual: Homenagem ao Pioneiro Gestualista Português", patente de 14 de julho a 15 de agosto de 2026.
Com curadoria de Carlos Cabral Nunes, a exposição reúne uma centena de obras, incluindo uma vasta seleção do percurso de Artur Bual, com obras realizadas entre as décadas de 1950 e 1990. Este núcleo central é complementado por obras de artistas de distintas gerações e proveniências. Entre eles encontram-se autores que mantiveram uma relação direta com Bual, bem como criadores cuja obra revela afinidades plásticas e poéticas com o seu legado, como Mário Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, Fernando Lemos e Figueiredo Sobral, entre outros.
Reconhecido como o pioneiro da pintura gestual em Portugal, Artur Bual desenvolveu uma linguagem artística profundamente livre, marcada pela expressividade do gesto, pela intensidade cromática e pela valorização do próprio processo criativo. A partir do final da década de 1950, a sua investigação plástica contribuiu decisivamente para a renovação da pintura portuguesa, afirmando uma obra singular que permanece incontornável pela sua originalidade e relevância no panorama artístico nacional.
Esta homenagem assume também um significado muito particular para a própria história da Perve. Artur Bual foi um dos grandes incentivadores da criação do Colectivo Multimédia Perve – Associação de Arte e Cultura, fundado em 1997, mantendo uma relação de grande proximidade pessoal com os seus fundadores. Após o seu desaparecimento, a atividade do Colectivo daria origem, em 2000, à Perve Galeria. Só mais tarde se descobriria uma coincidência profundamente simbólica: o primeiro atelier de Artur Bual situava-se precisamente em Alfama, a escassos metros do espaço onde a galeria viria a estabelecer-se. Mais do que uma curiosidade biográfica, esta convergência reforça a ligação entre o artista e um projeto que ajudou a inspirar desde a sua génese, encontrando naquele território uma inesperada continuidade.
Mais do que uma evocação histórica, "100 Obras para Artur Bual: Homenagem ao Pioneiro Gestualista Português" propõe um diálogo entre o legado do artista e um conjunto de criadores que, através de diferentes linguagens e práticas, partilham uma visão da arte assente na liberdade criativa, na experimentação e na permanente reinvenção plástica. A exposição evidencia, assim, a notável atualidade da obra de Artur Bual e a sua capacidade de continuar a inspirar novas leituras, afirmando-se como uma referência incontornável da arte portuguesa contemporânea.

In the year marking the centenary of the birth of Artur Bual (1926–1999), Perve Galeria and Casa da Liberdade – Mário Cesariny present the exhibition “100 Artworks for Artur Bual: A Tribute to the Portuguese Gesturalist Pioneer”, on view from 14 July to 15 August 2026.
Curated by Carlos Cabral Nunes, the exhibition brings together around a hundred artworks, including a wide-ranging selection from Artur Bual’s path, featuring works created between the 1950s and the 1990s. This central body of work is complemented by pieces by artists from different generations and backgrounds, including those who maintained a close personal or artistic relationship with Bual, as well as others whose practices reveal strong aesthetic and poetic affinities with his legacy, such as Mário Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, Fernando Lemos and Figueiredo Sobral, among others.
Widely recognised as the pioneer of gestural painting in Portugal, Artur Bual developed a profoundly free artistic language, distinguished by the expressive force of the gesture, the intensity of colour and a deep commitment to the creative act itself. From the late 1950s onwards, his artistic research played a decisive role in the renewal of Portuguese painting, establishing a singular body of work whose originality and enduring significance have secured its place within the country's artistic history.
This tribute also carries a deeply personal significance for the history of Perve itself. Artur Bual was one of the strongest supporters of the creation of the Colectivo Multimédia Perve – Association for Art and Culture, founded in 1997, and maintained a close personal friendship with its founders. Following his passing, the activities of the Collective gave rise to Perve Galeria in 2000. Only later was a remarkable coincidence discovered: Bual's first studio had been located in Alfama, just a few metres from the space where the gallery would eventually establish itself. More than a biographical curiosity, this unexpected convergence reinforces the profound connection between the artist and a project he helped inspire from its very inception, finding in the same neighbourhood an unforeseen continuity.
More than a historical commemoration, “100 Artworks for Artur Bual: A Tribute to the Portuguese Gesturalist Pioneer” establishes a dialogue between the artist's legacy and a group of creators who, through diverse languages and artistic practices, share a commitment to creative freedom, experimentation and the continual reinvention of visual expression. In doing so, the exhibition highlights the enduring relevance of Artur Bual's work and its remarkable capacity to inspire new interpretations, reaffirming his position as one of the defining figures of modern and contemporary Portuguese art.
